(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein, President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) Monday received a donation from Lee Jae-wan, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, at the Korean Embassy's premises, in support of HCD's work.
The donation was presented during a ceremony, held to mark the Korean Embassy's support of HCD, given latter's nation-wide efforts, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation was also made to commemorate the 3rd October as the Day of Korean National Foundation.
Donated items included some hygiene items including reusable protective masks, hand sanitizers, thermometers and gloves, which will be distributed to HCD, its liaison offices and disability-related non-governmental organizations.
During the ceremony, His Royal Highness Prince Mired expressed his gratitude to the Korean ambassador for his and the embassy's in-kind support, especially in relation to the interventions to do with the prevention and protection from the disease, and the need to ensure that those measures are accessible to persons with disabilities.
The Prince added that HCD has since the lockdown last March worked with its partners in the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, introducing a series of interventions, including a COVID-19 service guide, as well as a Guiding Principles Document on the Preventive and Treatment Measures in Relation to COVID-19 for Persons with Disabilities.
For his part, Ambassador Lee Jae-wan noted that during this COVID-19 pandemic crisis, persons with disabilities are at higher risk from the virus, requiring taking extra precautions. In this regard, highly applauding the HCD's dedications and contributions to the improvement of condition of persons with disabilities, the Korean Embassy decided to participate in the efforts of the HCD to protect such vulnerable group from COVID-19 infection.
Speaking of the bilateral relations between the two countries, the Ambassador, also stated, "Like Jordan, Korea has taken strong measures to mitigate the spread of the virus since the outset of the COVID 19. Korean people chose the path leading to 'freedom for all'. The Korean Government has kept its people fully informed every step of the way, and the people in turn have responded to this by placing their trust in the government, voluntarily wearing face mask, and doing social distance. Korea will continue to commit itself to working together with Jordan in combating COVID-19.
The Korean Government has been making efforts together with Jordanian Government to support persons with disabilities. From 2017 to 2019, the KOICA distributed low cost light-weight electronic prosthetic hands to more than 100 arm amputees in Jordan.
