(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Aqaba, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef Bakhit, on Monday received the "Aqaba Marine Reserve" project blueprint from the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Jordan, Sara Ferrer Olivella.
The reserve project aims to protect marine ecosystems and coral reefs and help push sustainable development efforts forward, according to Bakhit. He noted that the project was ordered by His Majesty the King.
He indicated that ASEZA took all necessary measures to implement the project and joined hands with the UNDA to draw a roadmap to ensure that the reserve meets environmental standards in force in the Kingdom.
According to Bakhit, the project blueprint was prepared by two foreign and local consultants hired by the UNDP in coordination and cooperation with ASEZA. He further noted that the UNDP will prepare other project documentation, including the reserve's administrative plan and staff training and rehabilitation schemes.
The ASEZA chief commissioner also said that the authority will forward the blueprint to the Ministry of Environment to officially declare the reserve.
