Hikma Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of initiatives in MENA

(MENAFN- Bidaya Corporate Communications) Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, the multinational pharmaceutical company, recognized Breast Cancer Awareness month across its locations in MENA, by launching its annual campaign in partnership with local cancer centres and hospitals along with a number of activities for its employees, with the aim of further emphasising awareness for the disease through community outreach.

Throughout the month of October, for the past decade, Hikma in Jordan has been committed to supporting and sponsoring the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC)’s activities for the Jordan Breast Cancer Programme (JBCP) October National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, a national programme led by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Centre that was established a decade ago to respond to the increased burden of breast cancer. The sponsorship this year also includes supporting JBCP’s efforts in screening 150 under-privileged women in the local communities of Deira Alla, Al Balqa Governorate through their ‘Home-visits project”. The project aims to improve women’s practices of screening and offers counselling and follow-up for suspicious cases to detect breast cancer at its earliest stages possible and eliminate accessibility barriers and refer women above 40 to the mobile mammography unit for free screening examinations.

Internally, Hikma has also been bringing its employees together to support the cause and increase awareness by encouraging them to take photos of themselves wearing a pink t-shirt or a ribbon or a pink face mask and sharing them internally. In cooperation with JBCP and other entities across MENA, Hikma organized an online session to educate employees on breast cancer prevention, risk, screening and treatments. In Jordan employees were also encouraged to purchase charitable gifts, the proceeds of which go to the JBCP initiatives for screening underprivileged women.

Commenting on the initiatives in MENA, Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, Global Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Hikma, said: “The wellbeing of our community and employees is a key priority for Hikma and we are driven by our mission of creating better health within reach every day. A key component of this is being able to promote awareness and education that empowers women to take better care of themselves. Breast cancer impacts the very fabric of our society-women- who are the primary caregivers and hold the family unit together. To this end we are proud to be partnering with leading programmes that are driving awareness of this cause and making a difference in the lives of women.”
