(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A unique initiative aimed at promoting domestic tourism and the food and beverage industry in Qatar is driving footfall to Katara the Cultural Village.
‘Tasty Street', Qatar's latest culinary haven located at the courtyard opposite Al Jazeera Media Café, features 37 restaurants and cafés that offer an array of gastronomic favourites between 3pm and 2am.
It is learnt that some of the bestsellers include burgers, sandwiches, muffins and cakes, doughnuts, and flavoured fries and chips, along with hot or cold beverages.
Coffee and other specialties such as Spanish latte, flat white, and macchiato, remained to be in high demand at Jolt Coffee Brewery, Cuppers Coffee & Co, and 974 Specialty Coffee, among other participating café's and outlets.
The venue can accommodate hundreds of cars
'It's great to see many local outlets in one place, offering a variety of snacks such as burgers, comfort foods, and sweets, Filipino expatriate Jan A, who ordered burgers and karak tea for his family, told Gulf Times.
'Another good thing is that waiting time is less since many of the stalls have more than one staff to take orders from a number of customers on queue, he added. 'From here (Tasty Street), we usually visit other areas at Katara like the South Hills gardens and beach area where we eat our food.
The 6,300sqm venue can accommodate hundreds of cars even at peak periods and motorists find ordering (takeaway) fast, easy, and safe, it is learnt.
A number of joints, including the Lava Burger, Traffic Burger, Scary Burger, and QQQ Burger, are among the favourites for meat lovers while Sugar Bites, Local Cookies, and Donatty satisfy customers' cravings for desserts.
British expatriate Richard N lauded the organisers saying that such concept, like a drive thru at fast-food chains, ensures the health and safety of both customers and employees.
'This is an excellent idea because it is outdoor, and motorists like me who is always on the go can simply stop and and order, wait for a few minutes, and then leave. No need to look for a parking slot, which is often unavailable during weekends. It is really well-organised, he said. 'I hope other festival organisers will also do the same especially under this new normal.
The unique initiative, with the participation of Qatari youth projects, continues to attract a large number of foodies as temperatures have become more conducive for hangouts at various locations in the country, especially Katara.
Tasty Street, which will run until March 31, 2021, aims to support Qatari entrepreneurs by providing a platform to promote and expand their business, Katara said in a statement.
