Egypt, Sudan keen on reaching legal deal regarding GERD


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Sudan, on Tuesday, expressed keenness on reaching a binding legal agreement that guarantees a just filling and operational plan regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
In a statement, the Egyptian presidency spokesperson, Ambassador Bassam Radi, said that this came during a meeting between Egypt's President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and the Head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan, who is currently visiting Cairo.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the GERD developments in light of the current position of the tripartite negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia under the auspices of the African Union, where consensus was reached on the utmost importance of the water issue for the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples as a matter of national security, he added.
The Egyptian president affirmed the steadfast Egyptian strategic position in support of the security and stability of Sudan and its people and its keen follow-up of all current developments in the Sudanese arena regionally and internationally.
The Spokesman stated that Lieutenant General Al-Burhan expressed Sudan's keenness to continue coordination with Egypt in all files of mutual interest. (end)
