KABUL: Prominent Ulema, Sheikhs, and Muftis of Bangladesh have issued a fatwa calling an end to the war and the establishment of peace in Afghanistan.
The echoes of a recent denunciation of the ongoing war by Afghan clerics has reverberated loudly in the South Asian nation where clerics are taking a touch line against the escalating conflict, a sharp escalation in rhetoric against terrorism and violence.
Bangladeshi scholars have supported the intra-Afghan dialogue in Qatar, calling it important for peace in Afghanistan and urging an end to the war, said Afghan Foreign Ministry in a statement.
In a gathering on Sunday in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the religious scholars forbade the current war in Afghanistan and said the war is against the religious principles of Islam. In a resolution, they welcomed and supported Ulema of the Islamic world for condemning terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
Bangladeshi clerics have called on the warring parties in Afghanistan to respond to the people's call for peace and agree on a nationwide ceasefire to reduce violence and protect civilians.
Bangladeshi religious scholars called on the parties involved, especially the Taliban, to refrain from destroying or damaging public facilities, adding all parties have to work together in a spirit of tolerance and to build trust.
The denunciation comes a day after Afghanistan's religious scholars and clerics condemned the ongoing war and bloodshed and urged the warring parties to stop the war. They said the war is rooted in a tussle for power.
The condemnations come after a terrorist attack killed 24 people, mostly students, in western Kabul on Saturday. ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility but many say it was the Taliban, considering the intensity of their countrywide attacks. Peace talks in Qatar have also failed to help curb violence in the country, dashing hopes for peace.
