Ukraine- G7 ambassadors hope canceled elections in 18 Donbas communities to take place as soon as possible


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The G7 Ambassadors congratulated Ukrainians on voting in the local elections and expressed hope that residents of 18 communities in government-controlled Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where elections were not held for security reasons, would be able to elect their representatives as soon as possible.

"The G7 Ambassadors commend Ukrainians for exercising their democratic right to vote in today's [October 25] elections. This is democracy in action: citizens getting directly involved in the life of their cities and regions. We hope the 18 communities who could not vote will be able to choose their representatives as soon as possible," reads the statement of G7 Ambassadors' Support Group posted on Twitter .

As reported, local elections took place in Ukraine on 25 October 2020.

Elections were not organized and held in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea.

On August 30, the Central Election Commission, on the recommendation of the Joint Forces Operation Headquarters and regional military-civil administrations, approved a resolution saying that elections would not be held in 18 communities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions located in government-controlled territory.
