Egyptian building material exports increase 20% during 8M 2020


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's exports of building and refractory materials and metal manufactured products increased by 20% during the first eight months of 2020, according to the monthly report issued by the Export Council for Building Materials.

The report shows that these exports amounted to $3.959bn during this time period, compared to $3.299bn during the same period in 2019.

It added that exports of cast iron, steel, and cement declined by 24% during the first eight months of the year, recording $455m, compared to about $608m during the same period last year.

Egypt's exports of cement declined by 19% during the period from January to August of this year, recording $90m compared to $111m during the same period last year.

Additionally, exports of ceramics, tiles, roofing materials decreased by 30% to $78m compared to about $111m in the same period of 2019. Steel and cast iron exports fell by 26% to record $365m compared to $497m. At the same time, glass exports decreased by 24%, amounting $204m in the first eight months of 2020 compared to $268m in the same period of 2019.

Sanitary ware exports decreased by 14% to $78m compared to $91m, and aluminium and its products fell by 11% to register $331m compared to $371m in the same period of 2019.

The report highlighted that 10 countries accounted for 75.7% of Egypt's total exports of building and refractory materials and metal manufactured products. This trade amounted to a value of $2.998bn during the period from January to August 2020, compared to $2.203bn during the same period of 2019, reflecting a growth of 36%.
