Qatar- Al Kuwari becomes Asian Volleyball Vice President

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The President of Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari (pictured) became a Vice-President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) following his unanimous election as President of the West Asian Federation, during the Zonal Association meetings yesterday.

Following the election, the QVA President also obtained membership in the Executive Office of the FIVB, the sport's world governing body.

The meetings were held through videoconference yesterday  with Zonal Executive Vice Presidents and AVC Board of Administration Members elected by member countries to represent their zones.

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a full physical meeting could not be safely held and AVC had, therefore, decided to separately conduct meetings for the zonal associations  ahead of the 23rd AVC General Assembly, which will also be organised through video conference on October 26.

With the FIVB's support on using the Lumi System, the meetings were split into five sessions.

The West Zone meeting also witnessed the election of officials from Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain as members of the AVC Board of Administration.

Following the election, the QVA President said that his unanimous election came as a result of the confidence the West Asian Federations have vested in the Qatari Association in its ability to develop the game in the region. He also said that the achievements did not come out of nowhere and it is the product of the continuous work of the QVA in all international and regional levels.

Al Kuwari also pointed out that winning this position is a huge achievement by Qatari sports, thanks to the support it receives from the wise leadership in the country, and the great interest of the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.
