Afghanistan- Nato Secretary-General: Taliban Should Reduce 'Violence'


(MENAFN- Khaama Press) NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg says the Taliban must live up to their promises, significantly reduce violence and pave the way for a lasting truce.

He made the remarks at a video conference ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon.

Stoltenberg stressed, that all NATO member states fully support the agreement between the United States and the Taliban and the current process of Intra-Afghan negotiations.

"In Afghanistan, NATO has around 12,000 troops in the Alliance's biggest mission. As part of the peace process, we have adjusted our presence, any further adjustments remain conditions-based " Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General Said.

NATO's General Secretary has called on the Taliban to abide by their commitments under the Doha Accord and to reduce tensions significantly in order to pave the way for a ceasefire.

Stoltenberg added that the Taliban should cut ties with al-Qaeda and other international terrorist groups.
