Afghanistan blast kills 12 people, wounds 100

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- At least 12 civilians were killed and more than 100 others were wounded on Sunday in a car bombing close to police headquarters in Afghanistan's central province of Ghor.
An explosive-laden car went off close to the police headquarters and government offices for women, martyrs and disabled affairs in Firozkoh city, Ghor province, the Afghan Ministry of Interior in a statement.
Spokesperson for the provincial governor Arif Aber said the bombing "destroyed and partially damaged some government buildings, including the police chief's office, the women's affairs department and the provincial office for refugees."
The head of a hospital in Ghor, Mohammad Omer Lalzad told the media that emergency staff were treating dozens of people with both serious and light injuries from the bombing.
He expressed fear that the death toll is expected to rise. No group including the Taliban rebels has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The blast came shortly after Taliban blamed the United States forces in Afghanistan for violating the deal the two sides signed in Doha back in February.
In a statement earlier today, Taliban said that US forces in contravention of the peace deal have bombed non-conflict zones in Helmand, Farah and a few other provinces.
The group has accused, "the United States forces conducted airstrikes and drone strikes on areas in Nahri Saraj, Khoshkawa, Babaji, Gereshk, Sangin, Nawa and Nad Ali districts as well as in Farah and other provinces."
However, US forces in Afghanistan in a statement rejected the statement by the Taliban. "We categorically reject the Taliban's claim the United States has violated the US-Taliban Agreement.
US airstrikes in Helmand and Farah have been and continue to be solely in defense of the ANDSF (Afghan National and Defense Security Forces) as they are being attacked by the Taliban," US forces spokesman in Afghanistan Col. Sonny Leggett said.
The statements from both sides came at a time when intra-Afghan talks are underway between the delegation representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar.
But the two sides so far have not managed to finalize the procedures and methods for conducting the formal negotiations. The intra-Afghan talks followed a US-Taliban peace deal signed in February in Doha. (end)
