420 kg of drugs apprehended at Istanbul airport


(MENAFN) Local media reported on Thursday that a total of 420 kilograms of drugs valued 3 million U.S. dollars were apprehended by Turkish customs enforcement teams at the state"s biggest Istanbul Airport.

According to the Demiroren news agency report, the units apprehended amid a chain of operations, a Khat-type drug in six bags which belonged to two travelers. These bags were identified inside a vehicle at the parking zone of the airport.

A notable amount of Khat inside a package declared as a textile item was also seized during the police operation while they were being transferred from Nigeria to the United States via Istanbul.

At a separate operation, police caught six kilograms of cocaine inside a suitcase of a passenger, who was checked by an x-ray device and narcotic detector dog.
