Qatar- Winners of 6th Katara Prize for Arabic Novel announced


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, yesterday announced the winners of the 6th Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, which was held remotely under the supervision of the Arab League Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO).

The winners in the category of published Arabic novels are: Sheikh Ahmad Alban from Mauritania for his novel ‘Wadi Al Hatab'; Ibrahim Nasrallah from Jordan for his novel ‘ Dabab Taht Shajrat Eid Al Milad'; Faten Murr from Lebanon for her novel ‘Ghobar 1918'; Fathia Dabash from Tunisia for her novel ‘Melanin', and Muhammad Al Makhzanji from Egypt for his novel ‘Radeef'. Each prize is worth $60,000, in addition to translating the winning novels into English.

In the category of unpublished novels, Al Azhar Al Zinad from Tunisia won for his novel ‘Al-Natour'; Dr. Saed Al Alam from Morocco for his novel ‘Azra Granada: Hub Bain Madinatain'; Salem Mahmoud Salem from Egypt for his novel ‘Hadtha Fi al Iskandariya'; Ghazi Hussein Al Ali from Syria for his novel ‘Mercedes Sawda La Tukhiha Al Ain, and Najeeb Nasr from Yemen for his novel ‘Nisf Insan'. Each prize is worth $ 30,000, and the winning novels will be printed and translated into English.

In the category of studies concerned with fictional research and criticism, five critics won prizes: Dr. Osama Ayoub Alimi from Egypt; Dr. Abdel Malek Ashboon from Morocco; Dr. Alawi Ahmed Saleh Al Majami from Yemen; Dr. Muhammad Ismail Al Labani from Egypt and Dr. Mustafa Al-Nahal from  Morocco. The value of each prize is $15,000 and the award committee is in charge of printing, publishing and marketing studies.

In the youngsters' novel category, the winners include Dr. Mahdi Salah Al Juwaidi from Egypt; Muhammad Mahmoud Al Akashiya from Palestine; Dr. Nada Jamal Saleh from Jordan; Hoda Bohrawa from Algeria. Each prize is worth $10,000, where it will be printed and published.

In the category of published Qatari novel, Abdul Rahim Al Siddiqi from the State of Qatar won for his novel out of 15 novels that were nominated for the fifth category that was added to the award as of the fifth session. The prize value is $60,000, in addition to translating the winning novel into English.
