Japan reports 594 new virus cases, total at 83,448

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Japan reported 594 new cases of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours as of 4:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Wednesday, raising the nation's total number to 83,448, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by eight to 1,569.
Tokyo added 194 new infections, topping 100 for the second straight day, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 25,738. (Tokyo Metropolitan government revised the cumulative number up to yesterday).
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in February.
With a continued downward trend in fresh infections nationwide, the government is set to include trips to and from Tokyo in its domestic travel subsidy campaign from Thursday.
The JPY 1.35 trillion (USD 12.6 billion) state-subsidized incentives began in July to boost domestic tourism hit by the coronavirus, but it excluded the capital amid virus resurgence. (end)
