Jordan- Income, sales tax revenue at JD3.1bln in 8 months as new law kicks in


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sep. 29 (Petra) – Income and sales tax revenue hit a staggering JD3.106 billion in the first 8 months of 2020, up by 9 percent or JD255 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2019, official data revealed.
According to the Sales and Income Tax Department (ISTD), the increase was mainly driven by both the introduction of the 2018 Income Tax Law, which came into effect at the beginning of this year, and robust collection by the department.
Detailing the figures, the department said sales tax revenue in the 8-month period jumped by 10 percent or JD196 million to a total of JD2.189 billion against JD1.993 billion in the same period last year.
Income tax revenue hit a total of JD917 million in the January-August period, indicating a 7 percent or JD58 million increase, up from JD858 million in the same period of 2019.
Furthermore, the department revealed that a total of 1,410 taxpayers filed settlement requests; 710 of which had been approved by the Cabinet.
The number of income taxpayers surged to 1.385 million, up by 29,000 compared with the figure recorded at the end of August last year. Similarly, the number of sales taxpayers reached 41,081, signaling an increase of 2,873 new taxpayers.
