Clashes kill 4 Taliban, a policeman in NE Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (KUNA) -- A local Afghan police commander and four Taliban fighters were killed during an attack in Afghanistanآ's northeastern Badakhshan province, said an official on Saturday.
A spokesman for provincial police chief in Badakhshan province, Sanaullah Rohani in a statement to the media said that the attack occurred in the Aba Yaftal area of Faizabad, the capital of the province, after the Taliban attacked public uprising forces checkpoints. A local police commander, Ghazi Shaheed was killed in the attack and one of his men was also wounded in the clashes.
"The clashes continued for an hour and the Talibanآ's attack was pushed back by the security forces," said the spokesperson. He confirmed that four Taliban fighters were killed in the clashes and five others were wounded. The Taliban has not yet commented on the attack.
Earlier last week, at least 26 Afghan security force members and 31 Taliban rebels were killed and around 20 security members were wounded during clashes in different parts of Afghanistan. The clashes came at a time when intra-Afghan talks are underway between the delegation representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar. But the two sides so far have not managed to finalize the procedures and methods for conducting the formal negotiations. (end)
