Inflation of Malaysia, calculated by the consumer price index (CPI), dropped a yearly 1.4 percent in August.

The Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement on Wednesday that the decline in the overall index came due to the drop in transport, as well as housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

However, the food and non-alcoholic beverages reported an increase of 1.3 percent.

The data also said that on monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.2 percent.
