Fifteen Radical Islamic Party members detained in Uzbekistan


(MENAFN) Uzbekistan's Samarkand police department said Friday that a joint police and security operation targeted militants of the Radical Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir based in the region, with 50 of the insurgents were detained.

According to the police statement, the joint mission took place in Taylak, Samarkand, the districts of Urgut and the city of Samarkand.

According to the release, physical evidence of terrorist content was found at the detainees' residences, with the police confirming that a probe to the crime has been launched.

Hizb ut-Tahrir was identified as a banned religious extremist group in 2016 by the Uzbek Supreme Court.
