Retail sales in Canada continue to expand in July

Statistics Canada said on Friday that the retail sales in the country expanded 0.6 percent to set at 52.9 billion Canadian dollars (USD40 billion) in July over a rise in sales of motor vehicle and parts dealers and gasoline stations.

The core retail sales declined 1.2 percent over the drop in building material and garden equipment materials and supplies dealers and food and beverage stores.

The total retail sales were V-shaped, as June and July sales recovered from the record low seen in April, as with the gradual resumption of business activities in Canada, June and July saw recovery in retail sales and went over the pre pandemic levels in February.

Retail sales in increased 0.4 percent in volume terms in July.
