(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sep. 14 (Petra) -- The British Ambassador to Jordan Bridget Brind congratulated this year's cohort of Chevening Scholars, who will shortly be leaving for the UK to study fully-funded one-year Masters degrees at some of the UK's most prestigious universities.
In a statement on Monday, the envoy said that the Chevening Scholarships are part of the UK Government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. Every year the Chevening Programme selects for study in the UK the very best candidates who can demonstrate their potential as future leaders and influencers in their respective fields, Brind added.
She pointed out that this year's Chevening Scholars from Jordan were chosen through a rigorous application process and were presented with certificates by the Ambassador at her residence.
The British Ambassador said: "I am delighted to congratulate the 13 outstanding young Jordanians who have been selected as Chevening Scholars this year and to wish them well as they leave for the UK to study at British universities," adding that Chevening is an extremely competitive scholarship programme that represents the British government's ongoing commitment to supporting the future of Jordan.
"I am inspired in this regard both by the ambitions of our new Chevening Scholars and by the stories and achievements of Jordan's Chevening Alumni that I have heard this week," the envoy stated.
The embassy is now accepting applications for the next round of Chevening Scholarships. The application window is open until 3 November 2020. Applications should be submitted via www.chevening.org/apply.
Chevening's over 50,000-strong alumni network includes 17 current or former heads of state or government. Chevening alumni excel in a variety of fields outside of politics too and brings together leaders from more than 160 countries and territories, creating networks and friendships.
