Egyptian court: Brotherhood leaders to life behind bars


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- The criminal court in Port Said on Saturday sentenced former guide of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood organization Mohammad Badie and eleven leaders of the group to life in prison, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
The court found Badie and the other chiefs guilty for committing, instigating violence and acts of murder that happened in the province of Port Said in 2013.
MENA said the tribunal sentenced 59 members of the group to be held in maximum security prison for three years. Three other convicts would serve six months behind the iron bars and case of a deceased defendant was considered as closed.
The general prosecution had accused the convicts of instigating murder, intending to kill, forming a band that attacked a police station in Port said, killing all police officers inside it, looting their arms and organizing a demonstration with the intention to obstruct law enforcement and assaulting state authorities.
Moreover, they were convicted of organizing a rally of 3,000 persons, assaulting individuals, public and private properties, bullying public service personnel with force and violence.
Furthermore, they possessed unlicensed arms, namely rifles, pistols, ammunition and white weapons.
The convicts had also inflicted massive damage at the police station, along with three nearby cars and stores. (end)
