Colombia registers 445,111 coronavirus infections

(MENAFN) The Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection registered on Friday, August 14, that the total count of reported infections of the new COVID-19 in the country increased to 445,111, with 14,492 death cases.

The ministry confirmed that 11,306 new infections and 347 more fatalities were registered and that 41,434 tests for the virus were conducted in the last 24 hours.

Claudia Lopez, mayor of Colombian capital Bogota, declared that starting on Sunday, seven parts in the city will be put under severe confinement until Aug 30 because of the high number of cases, affecting about 1.2 million people.

She stated "Bogota today for the first time has many more recovered than the infected, because we are already on the plateau of that first peak of the pandemic, but we still have 86 percent occupancy of ICUs (intensive care units). We have some wiggle room, yes, but we are still going through the peak".
