Dacquin M. Kasumba

(MENAFN- The Conversation) I am an Associate Professor at Université de Kinshasa, and a Research Fellow at Institut National de Recherche Biomedicale (INRB) both in D.R.Congo. I started my professional career in the pharma/biotech industry (SouthAfrica) before obtaining my Master's degree in Pharmacology at Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa). I earned a Ph.D. from Kyoto University, Japan studying how viruses interact with mammalian hosts to cause diseases. These basic understanding of viral immunology and virology allows the development of treatments and preventive measures against viral diseases. In that optic, my research has so far resulted in a patented discovery and characterisation of a molecule having strong immune-modulating capacity. This molecule is currently being evaluated as an anti-SARSCoV2 option at Kyoto University.

My combined skills allowed me to undertake research as a Postdoc (Université de Montréal, Canada) and now as a Research Fellow (INRB, D.R.Congo) allowing identification of potential targets for development of therapies and vaccines against infectious diseases in general, and viruses in particular. I am currently implicated in a research project characterizing monoclonal antibodies against Ebola virus in collaboration with the NIH. Since obtaining my Ph.D., I published several immunology and virology articles in high impact peer-reviewers journals. I am a member of the Canadian Society for Virology, the International Society for Cytokines and Interferons, and an Alumnus of Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting 2020.
