UAE to invest in Afghanistan's solar project, eyes to generate 3000 MW power

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The Afghan Government and United Arab Emirates-based PAL 4 Solar Engery LLC signed a memorandum of understanding to provide electrical energy through solar panels in Afghanistan.

'This project will be implemented all over the country', said the office of the President on Tuesday.

Representatives from both the Emirates private sector and the Afghan government were present at the signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

If fully implemented, this solar energy project will provide Afghanistan with 3000 MW of electrical energy, officials said.

In 2007 it was outlined in one of the UNDP 's reports that Afghanistan has the capability of producing 67,000 MW of electricity from wind energy, 220,000 MW electricity from solar energy, 4,000 MW of clean energy from biomass and 23,000 MW of electricity from water resources annually.

Afghanistan still imports a significant amount of energy from the neighboring countries.
