Grounded Panama flagged ship threatens famed beaches


(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) A  Panama-flagged ship sailing from China to Brazil and carrying 4,000 tons of diesel oil has caused a spill into the waters of  Mauritius, a country famous for its paradisiacal beaches, the Mauritian government confirmed on Thursday, August 6.

The ship " MV Wakashio ", ran aground on July 25 in the southeast of the island. " There is a hole  in the boat and there is an oil leak, " the Mauritius government confirmed according to the local newspaper " Le Mauricien ."

The Mauritian Minister of the Environment, Kavydass Ramano, told the country's public television MBC that the Government has already used all the means to evacuate the ship's crew and that the priority now is to prevent the fuel dumped into the sea.  From reaching the nearby beaches and lagoons.
