Jordan keen to participate in Iraq


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, August 6 (Petra) - Minister of Public Works and Housing, Falah Amoush, and his Iraqi counterpart, Nazanin Sheikh Muhammad, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the infrastructure, and housing fields, and participation of Jordan's construction sector in Iraq's reconstruction process.
Speaking via teleconferencing, Amoush stressed Jordan's readiness to cooperate fully with the Iraqi government to benefit from the Jordanian construction expertise and to help open the Iraqi markets to the Kingdom's contractor sector.
As an additional guarantee, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) could issue performance bonds to Jordanian contractors to ensure sound implementation of projects in Iraq, he pointed out.
Stressing importance of drafting a joint agreement to standardize contractual aspects, he said this step aims to grant the Jordanian construction sector an additional privilege to enhance confidence and competitiveness of Jordanian engineering and contracting companies, according to a statement by the Ministry on Thursday.
For her part, the Iraqi minister affirmed her country's keenness to strengthen relations with Jordan in various fields to achieve the common interests, benefit from mutual opportunities and exchange expertise.
The geographical location, and the deep-rooted relations give priority to the Jordanian contractors, especially in light of their "vast" capabilities and expertise, according to the Iraqi official.
The duo agreed to maintain coordination to discuss all common issues and overcome any obstacles facing the two countries' efforts to enhance bilateral relations.
