Kuwait gives refugees in Kurdistan 18 tonnes of lamb in largest initiative

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) IRBIL, July 31 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Consulate in Irbil has handed out 18 tonnes of lamb, the "largest" initiative of its kind, donated by the Kuwait Awqaf General Secretariat, to displaced families and refugees in Kurdistan to mark the Muslim occasion of Eid Al-Adha on Friday.
"Kuwait is committed to its humanitarian endeavours, which aim to assist all components of the Iraqi society," Consul-General in Irbil Omar Al-Kanderi told KUNA.
The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with provincial authorities and local humanitarian organisations, predominantly Barzani Charity Foundation, which previously was involved in a similar campaign during Eid Al-Fitr.
The initiative, part of the 'Kuwait is by your side' campaign, is targeting Iraqi as well as Syrian refugees in addition to families in need.
A total 12,000 families, including around 55,000 individuals, will benefit from the initiative in the cities of Irbil, Mosul and Kirkuk.
Expressing his gratitude and appreciation, Irbil governor Forsat Sufi said the initiative could not have come at a better time as it has eased the suffering of many people facing dire financial situations. (end)
