(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, July 27 (KUNA) -- China declared on Monday shuttering the American consulate in the city of Chengdu and said the local authorities took over the mission building.
Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the consulate building was shut down at 10 a.m. (local time), indicating that State personnel entered the facility through the main gate.
The ministry notified the American embassy last Friday that it would close down the consulate building in retaliation for Washington's decision to close the Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas. (end)
