(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Punjab government yesterday decided to impose a lockdown in certain parts of Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot.
The cities will undergo a seven-day smart lockdown till July 27.
According to a notification issued by the primary and secondary healthcare department (P and SHD) under the Punjab Infectious Diseases Ordinance 2020, 'controlled entry and exit will be observed in Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Sialkot and Gujranwala till July 27, 2020.
Under the lockdown, 'all markets, shopping malls, restaurants, offices (public and private) shall remain closed in these areas. There shall be a complete ban on the movement of people to and from these areas by public and private transport except for the limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities.
The notification added that there shall also be a complete ban on gatherings of all kinds for social, religious, or any other purpose at any place, public or private throughout these areas.
Earlier this month, 'smart lockdown was enforced in seven cities of Punjab for 15-days slated to end on July 24. These included Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat and Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, the national assembly was informed that pharmaceutical companies have agreed not to increase prices of medicines amidst Covid-19 crisis.
Parliamentary secretary for the National Health Services, Nausheen Hamid, told the house during question hour that action will be taken if the prices of medicines were increased before September this year.
She said 300,000 people have so far received medical treatment under this programme. She said 10bn rupees has been spent on the scheme.
Hamid said 7mn families have been enrolled under Sehat Insaf Cards programme aimed at providing free indoor healthcare facilities to the people.
Earlier special assistant to the prime minister on health, Dr Zafar Mirza,said the coronavirus testing capacity in the country is being further enhanced.
Speaking to a private news channel, Mirza said the death ratio of coronavirus patients remained low in the country due to better arrangements made by the government in this regard.
He said it was good thing that the number of Covid-19 positive cases have also declined.
However, he stressed people must follow the standard operating procedure (SOPs) to combat the virus.
