Qatar's IPI up by 6% in May 2020


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar's Industrial Production Index (IPI) for May 2020 stood at 104.2 points, showing an increase of 6.0 percent compared to the previous month (April 2020).

On year-on-year basis, the IPI index has decreased by 2.0 percent compared to the corresponding month of 2019, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority show.

The index of Mining sector showed an increase by 7.9 percent compared to the previous month, as a result of the increase in the quantities of 'crude oil and natural gas by 7.9 percent, while 'Other mining and quarrying showed a decrease by 7.6 percent.

When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (May 2019), the IPI of Mining decreased by 1.2 percent. The Manufacturing showed a decrease of 3.4 percent compared to the previous month, which refer to decrease in the following groups: ‘Manufacture of Cement and other nonmetallic mineral products' by 13.8 percent, followed by ‘Manufacture of food products' by 10.8 percent, ‘Manufacture of refined petroleum products' fell by 7.0 percent.
