PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has announced that Trinidad and Tobago will host the 2020 CPL T20 Tournament from August 18 - September 12, 2020, bringing cricket back to the screens of fans across the world.

'There are a number of key benefits to be derived from the hosting of this T20 Tournament. The CPL guarantees a large captive viewing audience of cricket fans from across the globe, and the 2020 edition will be the first cricket league to resume after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. The government of Trinidad and Tobago will have the benefit of showcasing Trinidad and Tobago to the world through this sport Tourism initiative. Marketing will be done through dedicated branded Trinidad and Tobago stands for all 33 games, as well as television mentions on telecasts. The government will be able to work with two dedicated film crews that will create high-quality, original content to promote Trinidad and Tobago as a preferred destination over the period of the tournament.'

COVID-19 concerns were also carefully considered. All games will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba and the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain. No spectators will be allowed. The matches would be viewed via television and online platforms. The ministry of health has worked with the medical advisers at the CPL in finalizing a detailed document that addresses COVID-19 protocols and guidelines for arrival, venues, activities, and equipment.

'All 215 people, comprising players and technical staff, must abide by these protocols while residing in Trinidad for the 41-day duration of the Tournament. Incoming persons will begin arriving from August 01, to adhere to the 14-day quarantine rules. Inbound persons will be tested before leaving their home country, on arrival in Trinidad and throughout the tournament. Additionally, players will not have contact with persons outside of their groups.'

'2020 marks the third year in the current three-year agreement, where Trinidad and Tobago has been hosting CPL's T20 Tournament. It is the first international tournament Trinidad and Tobago will host under the COVID-19 protocols. The CPL has agreed to negotiate with the government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for the hosting of the Tournament in this country for a further three years,' the statement said.
