Theaters are not finding it easy to recover from the pandemic. Due to the lockdown, and the social distancing restrictions, that cannot be taken lightly, theatre companies are not likely to open up in the near future.
During the early stages of the pandemic, to the lockdown stages, tickets sales have dropped incredibly which caused many theatre companies to suffer. Nuffield Southampton Theatres, a company which has been running successfully for 50 years, and controls two venues, will now permanently close.
Since the art of theatre productions is part of the British culture, the British government has sent packages to try and help save as many theatres as possible for the upcoming generations, However, even with the help the British Government, many venues have no option but to shutdown.
Theaters are not always reserved and packed with people; therefore this period will be even harder for many theatre companies to recover from, as they have zero income.
Due to the uncertainties of the global pandemic, the government has no idea when theatres could reopen again, therefore theatre companies are stuck without work until further notice.
Most theatres are built in ancient buildings, where there are narrow hallways, tight public spaces, and the seats are crammed together. So the finances are only one issue, but with social distancing and the precautions that people will take after the pandemic, opens up another issue that theatre companies must consider.
