(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, July 3 (KUNA) -- Algeria Friday organized an official reception of remains of 24 Algerian citizens who resisted the French colonization, but they were beheaded and their heads were taken to France.
An Algerian army plane arrived in Algeria's International Airport from France carrying skulls of 24 resistence fighters, and the remains were taken to the Cultural Palace before they are scheduled to be burried on Sunday.
The skulls belong to patriots who resisted the French forces since they invaded the country in 1830.
President Abdulmajid Tabboune was leading the reception, attended by senior state officials, ministers and army officers.
Among the known resistance leaders are Al-Sharif Bubaghla, Sheikh Ahmad Buzyan, Al-Sharif bu Ammar bin qdeida, Mukhtar bin Quwaider Titrawi and Mohammad bin Hajj.
Tabboune said yesterday Algeria would regain remains of 24 resistance leaders, who spent 170 years in Paris museums and it was their right to be burried. (end)
