Italy provides 1.5 million euros to integrate Iraqi refugees in Jordan

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 1 (Petra) -- The Italian government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on Wednesday signed a 1.5 million euros agreement to integrate and support Iraqi refugees and local hosting communities in Jordan.
The agreement, signed by Italian Ambassador to Jordan Fabio Cassese and UNDP representative Sara Ferrer Olivella, aims to provide an opportunity for the Iraqi community in Jordan to actively integrate into the life of local communities, and achieve better social cohesion and economic integration.
Ambassador Cassese stressed the importance of this initiative in promoting employment between vulnerable societies and creating economic opportunities, lauding Jordan's role in receiving and serving Iraqi refugees.
He added that this agreement would enhance psychological and social support and mental health services for Iraqi refugees, improve job-related skills for hundreds of Iraqi refugees and Jordanians, establish companies and provide training for them.
Olivella said that this project is at the heart of the comprehensive growth program of the UNDP that aims at promoting a holistic approach to self-reliance and community cohesion and achieving sustainable livelihood opportunities.
She noted that the initiative will directly serve 497 beneficiaries and about 2000 beneficiaries indirectly.
