Jordan- Senate committee, AWO discuss women empowerment prospects


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, June 28 (Petra)-The Senate's Women Committee, headed by Rabha Dabbas, met on Sunday, a delegation representing the Arab Women Organization of Jordan (AWO).
Speaking during the meeting, Dabbas said women had entered several sectors despite the difficult economic and political circumstances, adding Jordanian women received "noticeable" Royal attention to achieve their empowerment in various aspects of life.
In turn, the AWO's program director, Leila Nafaa, said the organization is preparing a report on the national gender file, which is the first of its kind in the Arab world, and includes 16 priority sectors in the European Union's programs.
The AWO, which is proceeding with preparing a plan to complete the requirements of meeting the women's needs in the field sectors, includes a set of activities and projects at the humanitarian and development levels, Nafaa announced.
During the Covid-19 crisis, the AWO carried out a series of activities online, which included topics on field work and domestic violence, Nafaa pointed out.
The AWO, a non-governmental and non-profit human rights' organization, has adopted a vision to strongly support gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, since its foundation in 1970.
