UAE- Coronavirus: Sheikha Fatima helps save lives of elderly patients in Italy


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Scores of elderly patients diagnosed with Covid-19 in Italy are now receiving much-needed treatment, thanks to the generous donations of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women''s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.

One particular donation, which Sheikha Fatima made on Zayed Humanitarian Day last month, has benefitted several senior citizens, who are now receiving Covid-19 treatment at Fondazione Montedomini, a foundation in Florence, Italy. Several other institutions taking care of elderly patients have received assistance.

Sheikha Fatima, the honorary president of Emirates Red Crescent, has also provided support to thousands of underprivileged families hit by the pandemic in the cities of Naples, Assisi and Rome.

And to help schoolchildren in Rome continue their studies through e-learning, she donated hundreds of tablets.

With all these humanitarian initiatives amid the global Covid-19 crisis, the Mother of the Nation earned praise from the Italian media.

Newspapers and news websites all carried stories of her generosity that spread hopein different parts of Italy. Several charities and communities expressed their appreciation, too.

At a recent meeting between Stefania Proietti, mayor of Assisi, and Omar Obaid Al Shamsi, the UAE''s Ambassador to Rome, Proietti extended the community''s gratitude for Sheikha Fatima''s support. The mayor then praised the UAE''s solidarity with Italy to combat the pandemic.

The UAE Ambassador also had a meeting with Virginia Raggi, mayor of Rome, who received 200 tablets as a donation from Sheikha Fatima.
