UAE- Bright Melody makes step up to Group 3

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) As British horse racing returned to a new normal this week with face masks, social distancing and health protocols in place, it is a busy week for Dubai-based racing operation Godolphin.

And on Wednesday, Bright Melody faces the first test of his fledgling career when he makes the step up to Group 3.

Saddled by British handler Charlie Appleby, Bright Melody is one among a strong field of 11-runners in the Group 3 Unibet Classic Trial Stakes at the Kempton Park Racecourse in Surrey.

Drawn on stall four, Bright Melody will be aiming for a second win on the trot after winning on debut in early January.

The three-year-old from the illustrious Irish 2000 Guineas winner Dubawi, Bright Melody had won the Novice Stakes at Chelmsford by a length and a quarter.

The mount of Dubai World Cup-winning jockey William Buick, Bright Melody will tackle the same distance as he had at Chelmsford.

"Bright Melody was green on his debut but did everything the right way round and finished off his race nicely," said Appleby.

"He is a gelding, so doesn't have any Classic aspirations, but we felt that he deserves a crack at this level. We are hopeful that he can produce another good effort and we will know more about his future afterwards," added the 44-year-old.

Meanwhile, Emirati conditioner Saeed bin Suroor saddles Warning Shot in the Novice Stakes (Div I) at Yarmouth. The three-year-old colt from Exceed And Excel will be making his second start.
