Indonesia posts drop in inflation

The consumer price index in Indonesia dropped to the lowest level since 20 years in the earlier month of may as the lockdown restriction that were imposed in order to control the spread of coronavirus decrease demands.

According to the Indonesian National Agency of Statistics on Tuesday, the May inflation dropped 2.19 percent on yearly basis in comparison with 2.67 percent recorded in the earlier month.

Kecuk Suhariyanto, head of the agency, said that the core inflation, which is without the administered prices and volatile prices, saw a drop of 2.65 percent in May year on year from 2.85 percent recorded in April.

The official added that the inflation saw a drop of 0.07 percent in May on monthly basis in comparison with 0.08 percent in April.
