As stated by the country's central bank, Vietnam is in front of a gradual change towards cashless payments; particularly via mobile devices and the Internet.
Daily newspaper Vietnam News cited the director of the payment department under the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Tiem Dung saying that in the previous year, online payments reached 64 percent regarding the number of transactions and 37 percent regarding value.
The total number of transactions and value of mobile payments in 2019 has also increased by 198 percent and 210 percent respectively, according to Dung.
The officials asserted that online payments for public services have also become widespread locally. It was also added that some banks had connected with tax and customs sections. In addition, the tax was brought together through banks established for 95 percent of the total number of taxes.
