Pakistan- COVID-19 death toll in KP mounts to 351


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The death toll from COVID-19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 351 as six new deaths were reported on Wednesday.

According to latest data shared by the KP Health Department, as many as 261 new cases were confirmed in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 6,815. The new infections include 70 from people returning from abroad who have been kept at different quarantine centres. Out of six new deaths, three have been reported in Peshawar, and one each in Swat, Nowshera and Lower Dir.

The Health Department said a total of 2,130 patients have recovered in KP including 72 during the last 24 hours. Active cases are 4,334.

KP maintains the grim milestone of most deaths from the pandemic in the country.

Eid holidays of health staff cancelled

The KP government says the health staff will remain present on duties even during Eid holidays due to coronavirus situation.

According to a notification, some health institutions will remain open from May 22-27, which are Eid holidays. The offices which will remain open include Health Department, Directorate General Health Services, KP, including merged areas, all offices of district health officers (DHOs) and medical superintendents, all hospitals and other health facilities, Healthcare Commission, Independent Monitoring Commission.

The decision has been taken to facilitate the coronavirus and other patients. The lockdown in the province has also been further relaxed till Eidul Fitr to facilitate the people preparing for Eid.

Countrywide death toll crosses 1,000

Death toll from COVID-19 in Pakistan has mounted to 1,017.

Punjab and Sindh reported 17 deaths each, while KP reported six deaths during the last 24 hours.

As many as 351 deaths have been reported in KP, 297 in Punjab, 316 in Sindh, 38 in Balochistan, four in Gilgit-Baltistan, 10 in Islamabad Capital Territory and one in Azad Kashmir.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan have mounted to 47,979.

Of these, 18,964 have been reported in Sindh, 17,382 in Punjab, 6,815 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,968 in Balochistan, 1,138 in Islamabad Capital Territory, 579 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 133 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 13,101 patients have recovered from the virus in Pakistan.
