Kuwait- More counts of coronavirus victims across world


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, April 26 (KUNA) -- Nations across the globe continued on Sunday counting figures of new victims of the contagion coronavirus as some countries appeared tending to partially ease off lockdowns and rigid containment.
Spain announced Sunday 288 new COVID-19 deaths; the lowest figure since last March 20, bringing the total number of mortalities to 23,390. During a news conference, the National Center for Coordination and Emergency Health Director Fernando Simon said total number of infections due to the virus surged to 207,634 after confirming 1,729 cases in the last 24 hours.
He pointed out that 98,732 people have recovered from the disease so far, noting that 37,584 medical workers have contracted the virus in the country.
on Saturday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the government would reduce isolation restrictions that were imposed last March if the number of new infections continues to decline.
In Berlin, Germany declared recording 1,737 new infection cases in addition to 140 deaths due to COVID-19 in a single day. The medical institute Robert Koch said in a statement overall number of contaminations climbed to 154,175 while total number of deaths to 5,640.
It also reported 2,200 recoveries in a single day, raising the whole number of the recuperated to 112,000, signaling that more than two thirds of the contaminated have survived the contagious disease.
Ministry of Health in Luxembourg Sunday confirmed that number of coronavirus cases in the country increased by 12 to 3,723. The death toll rose by three climbing to 88.

Up to 66 coronavirus deaths were reported in the Netherlands on Sunday, down from 120 yesterday. The total death toll from coronavirus rose to 4,475, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment announced.
A total of 655 more people have tested positive for coronavirus, the same figures as yesterday, raising the total number of infections to 37,845. Meanwhile, 75 coronavirus patients have been admitted to hospitals, down from 100 yesterday, raising the total number to 10,456.
Up to 178 new deaths from coronavirus were reported in Belgium on Sunday, down from 241 yesterday. The total death toll has now reached 7,094, Belgian health ministry officials announcedy. Furthermore, 809 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the past 24 hours, down from 1,032 yesterday, raising the total to 46,134.
In Tokyo, number of Japan's new coronavirus infections rose by 261 to 13,339 over the last 24 hours as of 4:00 pm (0700 GMT) on Sunday, excluding 712 people who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship, the authorities said.
The death toll climbed by 13 to 361, excluding 13 from the cruise ship that was quarantined near Tokyo in February, according to the health ministry and local governments. Tokyo reported 72 additional infections, falling below 100 for the first time since April 13, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 3,908.
In Riyadh, the ministry of health said three more people died of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Saudi Arabia over the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the Kingdom up to 139.
A total of 1,223 tested positive for the respiratory disease in the kingdom, raising the total count of confirmed infections to 17,522, the ministry's Spokesman Mohammad Al-Abdulali said in a news briefing. Pakistan's nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients on Sunday went up to 12,723 with 269 deaths so far, whereas Afghanistan count stands at 1,474 with 47 deaths across the country. The virus has claimed at least 269 lives where the condition of 78 patients is reported critical, while at least 2,866 coronavirus patients have recovered across the country. The number of cases has continued to soar despite the country being under lockdown for the fifth consecutive week. In the last 24 hours, the country has confirmed 783 new cases and 15 new deaths. Meanwhile, the Afghan Ministry of Public Health confirmed 1,474 positive cases in the country, where 47 patients have lost their lives and 206 have recovered. The ministry announced that the issue of shortage of RNA extraction kits has been resolved. In the last 24 hours, around 133 new cases were reported in the country where four people lost their lives to the virus. The first case in Pakistan emerged on February 26 when a young man from Karachi city tested positive. Following the rising number of cases, the government of Pakistan suspended all international flights and all restaurants and shopping malls were ordered to be closed. Algerian Ministry of Health said in a statement that 126 new cases were registered over past 24 hours, in addition to six people who succumbed to the contagion and gave up their lives. It added that 29 patients recovered raising the whole figure of the sick who recuperated to 1,508. In Khartoum, Sudanese Ministry of Health said 24 new infections were newly recorded in addition to four new deaths. In Greece, the ministry of health reported four new deaths raising the overall figure of the fatalities to 134, while infections reached 2,517. In Thailand, a spokesman of the ministry of health said number of infection cases reached 2,922 and deaths 51. In Malaysia, the director general of the health department, Noor Hisham, said at a news conference that 38 cases and single death were recorded over the past hours. Overall number of infections due to the coronavirus in Malaysia amounted to 5,780 and deaths 98, he said, adding that 100 cases were pronounced as cured of the disease bringing the whole number of such cases to 3,862.
