(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Doha Debates, part of Qatar Foundation, has launched a new initiative, #DearWorld Live, an interactive livestream series, focusing on the present novel coronavirus (which causes the Covid-19 respiratory disease) challenges that the world has to meet, and the difficulties that the people around the globe are facing.
A weekly livestreaming, #DearWorld Live will be telecast every Tuesday at 5pm Doha time.
The first session yesterday was on the various social media platforms of Doha Debates.
The premiere episode examined the current situation in the world's second-most populous nation India and how the country is coping with the Covid-19 situation.
It focused on the world's biggest lockdown for 21 days, which has been extended for another 19 days.
It also discussed the situation faced by millions of people, especially those in the unorganised sectors, and daily wagers.
Doha Debates correspondent Nelufar Hedayat was the host, who was joined on the programme by Prof Jayati Ghosh and Ravi Mishra, both based in India.
Two Qatar-based students, Joud Kalyani, a student of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, and Taha Kaleem, a student of Georgetown University in Qatar, also joined the session.
Prof Ghosh highlighted the situation in several parts of India and how the lockdown has affected the livelihood of millions of people.
Mishra said that there should be attempts to involve the private sector in the efforts to help the poor, so that the assistance and support can reach the needy people faster.
Prof Ghosh is one of the world's leading economists and a columnist for the UK's Guardian and several top Indian newspapers, as well as a professor of economics at New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Meanwhile, Mishra is a journalist and human rights activist at the front lines of the coronavirus crisis, buying and delivering food and supplies to families in dire need in the Indian city of Bhopal.
The programme aims to help young people around the world navigate these difficult times and plan for the post-coronavirus era.
Hedayat will be joined on #DearWorld Live by experts for enlightening, solutions-focused conversations, including questions and comments from viewers around the world on each episode of the programme.
The next episode of #DearWorld Live will be broadcast on April 21 at 5pm Doha Time.
