Visa extended for foreigners in Sri Lanka


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The validity period of visas issued to foreign nationals in Sri Lanka has been extended.

A number of foreign nationals are stranded in Sri Lanka due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration said that the visas of foreigners in Sri Lanka will be extended till 12 May 2020.

It added that visas falling under all categories are entitled to the extension.

"Having considered the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the country, it has been decided to further extend the validity period of all types of Visas issued to all foreigners who are currently residing in Sri Lanka from another 30 days," the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.

The procedure to pay the relevant visa fee and to get the visa endorsed in the Passport will be informed to later.

Tourists have been informed to refrain from visiting the Visa Division of the Department of immigration and Emigration mentioned in the previous notice.

Tourists who intend to leave the island during the aforementioned period will be facilitated to pay the relevant visa fee at the Airport without any penalty.

The validity period of the Acknowledgements issued for the applications already submitted
to the Department of immigration and Emigration to obtain visas, will also be extended for
another period of 30 days, till 12th May 2020. (Colombo Gazette)
