The Zambian government has decided to suspend the export duty on metals and the import duety on mineral concentrates to support the mining industry in the country.
Bwalya Ng'andu, Finance Minister of Zambia, said that the government is going temporarily stop the export duty on precious metals and import duty on mineral concentrates.

The Zambia Chamber of Mines, an association of mining firms, said the move was the first step in the direction that must necessarily lead to a broader relief package similar to that being deployed by other countries in the face of the coronavirus.

The Zambia association of mining companies, the Zambia Chamber of Mines, said that the government took the decision as a first step in the direction that will lead to a relief package to that being deployed by other countries in batteling the coronavirus.

Chief executive officer of the association, Sokwani Chilembo, said that "The value of this announcement is greatly geared towards making better use of latent tertiary ore smelting and refining capacity while the bulk of the industry's core primary mining and metallurgical processing continues to need cashflow relief to make it through this fight for survival".
