Jordan- Gov't to continue to improve staples' distribution process, says minister

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 24 (Petra) – State Minister for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh on Tuesday said the government will continue to revise and adjust current mechanisms to deliver staples to the citizens.
In the fourth day of a nationwide curfew aimed at curbing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in the Kingdom, the government allowed bakeries to open and used public vehicles to roam the streets to deliver bread to homes.
Also, pharmacies were allowed to open and home deliver drugs, infant formula and necessary pharmaceuticals.
In his daily press briefing, Adaileh said around 25,000 tons of bread were produced today, expecting demand to subside as of tomorrow. The minister promised that the government will work out solutions to some glitches and shortcomings, including crowdings that were seen in some areas today.
The minister, who is also the government spokesperson, stressed that there are no ideal solutions in such difficult circumstances, saying it is a collective responsibility to navigate the current crisis.
Moreover, Adaileh indicated that the lifting of the curfew depends on citizens' commitment to social distancing and compliance with the regulations issued by the government, urging the public not to crowd around bread-distributing vehicles.
"The government has a program and plans, and these are evaluated first-hand based on our expectations for the numbers of cases, and we will make decisions that protect our people and the health of their children," he noted.
The minister also told reporters that the government is looking for solutions to help the agricultural sector, and these will be announced soon.
He also denied reports that the Ministry of Education is cancelling the rest of the current academic semester.
Additionally, technical government teams are looking into ways to hand over private sector employees their salaries, according to Adaileh.
