Qatar- Education Ministry lauds response of students, parents to distance learning system

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has lauded the response of students and parents to the distance learning system which began at government schools a couple of days ago.

'We are very happy to see the overwhelming response to the distance learning system by students, teachers and parents, said Adviser to the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mohamad Al Bashri, while talking to Qatar TV.

Al Bashri, who is also the Director of Public Relations and Communication Department at the Ministry, said that on the first day, some challenges were faced in smooth functioning of the new learning system which is being solved by the computer section of the Ministry.

'We urge parents to keep supporting their children in learning as we are going through an exceptional period of time. Countries all over the world are fighting to curb the spread of COVID-19, said Al Bashri. He said that teachers are working to make the distance learning system available for students, therefore it is a minimum requirement from parents to spare some time to help their children in learning through the new system.

He urged parents to communicate with teachers to give feedback and response.

'The State is continuing efforts in providing necessary support to run the distance learning system. A new YouTube channel has been launched. There are Learning Management System (LMS) and Microsoft-Teams apps are in place to ensure the smooth function of the remote learning system, said Al Bashri.

He thanked Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) for launching two TV channels to support the distance learning system.

'The steps taken by the State, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and other authorities concerned under distance learning, are enough to ensure a complete education process without any need to resort to private tuition, said Al Bashri.

The Ministry is uploading educational content in form of audiovisual lessons  on daily basis on the digital platforms provided by the Ministry.

These lessons were produced by carefully-selected specialist teachers from schools who received advance training in the production of the graphic lessons.

These teachers will explain the steps accompanying each lesson in a simple and sequential manner, to enable students to understand the lessons. To ensure smooth educational process and to enhance partnership between the parents and schools, educational plans and the weekly class schedule are being published daily which include contents of four illustrated subjects and daily and weekly assessments.
