Pakistan- KP govt says deceased patient in KP wasn't infected with coronavirus


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued a clarification about the suspected coronavirus patient's death at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) Peshawar that he was not found to be infected with the virus.

According to the hospital administration, two suspected coronavirus patients were brought to HMC – one belonging to Hangu and other to Buner. Both the patients had recently returned from abroad. The sources said the patient from Hangu had returned from Qatar and his condition was critical from Sunday night. He died during treatment at the hospital in the wee hours of Monday.

KP Minister for Health Taimoor Saleem Jhagra said the samples of both the patients were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad where they were declared clear from coronavirus. He said the deceased patient was given full protocol and his family members were also advised not to come out of their homes. However, he did not share information about the other suspected coronavirus patient.

Pilgrims returning to KP kept in quarantine

The Pakistani pilgrims who returned from Iran via Taftan border have also started arriving in KP.

The 18 pilgrims arriving in Dera Ismail Khan have been kept in quarantine and their samples have been sent to NIH Islamabad. Forty-one more people returning from Iran in Sindh have been diagnosed with coronavirus after which the tally in Sindh has mounted to 76 and in Pakistan to 94.

The Sindh government says screening process in other provinces is faulty due to which the disease is spreading. So far, 11 cases have surfaced in Balochistan, five in Gilgit-Baltistan, two in Islamabad and one in Punjab. So far, 59 people have been tested in KP and results of 29 of them are yet to be received, while 30 of them have been cleared.

Parks closed in KP

All the parks under the Local Government Department of KP have been closed owing to the threat of coronavirus spread.

Special Assistant to CM on Local Government Kamran Bangash said in a Twitter that parks will remain closed temporally amid the coronavirus emergency. He said public safety is the top-most priority at this critical time and we can defeat coronavirus through combined efforts.

Pakistan has also closed its borders with Iran and Afghanistan as part of precautionary measures.
