Austria issues USD4.4 billion financial aid to support economy amid Covid-19

The government of Austria said on Saturday that it has issued a total of USD4.4 billion financial aid package in order to support the economy of the country by securing jobs, guaranteeing liquidity and helping hardship cases in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak.

Sebastian Kurz, Austrian Chancellor, said that the money is going to be allocation to stabilizing the health care, keep public order, boost the labor market and compensate the income loss over the epidemic.

Finance Minister Gernot Blumel said that "The 2020 budget will not be a balanced one", adding that "A balanced budget is always important, but the health of the Austrian people is more important."

Economy Minister Margarete Schrambock said that firms that suffered the negative effects of the virus should be eligible to apply for new short-time working model as of Monday.

The short-time working model is going to be available in 48 hours, it took over 6 weeks to apply earlier, it will be available for workers to be 100 percent at home while remaining employed by their firms for the first time.
