South Africa''s Mathiam Keyser fired in six birdies on the final and concluding day of the Qatar Open Amateur Golf Championship to win the pro category while Michael Young of Ireland emerged the amateur winner of the championship.

Yesterday at the Doha Golf Club, the 33-year-old South African carded in the second lowest card on the final day of the three-day event and his seven-under par 65 lifted him to an impressive 11-under par 205 aggregate.
Keyser along with Young qualified for the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, an European Tour event which will be held at Qatar Education City Golf course from March 5 to 8.

Also making it to the Qatar Masters were two other professionals Niklas Lemke of Sweden and Brandon Robinson Thompson of England, who finished second and third in the pro section. ''It is unbelievable. I have been playing good golf for the last couple of months said Keyser while talking to journalists.

Lemke grabbed the second place with a total of two shots off Keyser and Thomson, who grossed for three days an eight under 208, was third.

Young was the only amateur to have played a below par round today and his one under 71 secured him the title. Young had three bogeys and a birdie in the first eight holes. But an eagle on the five-par 639-yard ninth hole helped him wrap up the front nine with par total.

Young dropped another shot but was able to collect two more birdies later which took his aggregate to three over par 219. IN the process he defeated Doha-based French Tom Santa by three shots to win the title.

Qatari players Saleh Al Kaabi and Ali Al Shahrani finished a joint third with Joshua Greer. They had an eight-over 224 total. While it was the second best for the 2017 runner-up Kaabi, it was the highest finish for Shahrani.
For Shahrani, it must be a big consolation as he had already pulled himself out of the race for the Qatar Masters 2020 due to some personal engagements.

The Qatar Golf Association decided to give the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters wildcards to Kaabi and Jahan Al Kuwari, who did not play the Qatar Open. Australian Andrew was sixth with nine over 225 after a 77 on the third day. Three shots further down was French Yassen Le Falser. India''s Hardik Sunil Chawda was eighth with a 229 aggregate, while two compatriot Daksh Shokeen and Aryaman Mohan Lal shared the ninth spot.

Qatar Golf Association General Secretary Fahad Nasser Al Naimi and QGA Board Member Mohamed Ibrahim Al Mohannadi gave away the prizes.
