Iraq cancels flights to Iran due to coronavirus

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- Iraq''s Ministry of Transportation announced on Thursday the suspension of Iraqi Airways flights to neighbouring Iran after declaring confirmed coronavirus cases in the latter.
The suspension came into effect as of Thursday, today, until further notice, the ministry said in a statement.
It added that the move was taken upon recommendations by Iraq''s Health Ministry regarding taking required measures to prevent the virus from entering Iraq.
The decision coveres Baghdad and Al Najaf airports, except for the diplomatic delegations and the Iraqi nationals who are now in Iran, it added.
Those should be subjected to measures of medical check-up by the Health Ministry''s staff when they return home, it pointed out.
The ministry expressed its readiness to transport those Iraqis from Iran to home after conducting required check-ups by the specialized medical teams and making sure of their safety, it said.
Iran''s health ministry declared, earlier in the day, that three more people have been infected by the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, raising the number to five. (end)
